Jim Cuddy
Jim Cuddy (officially James G. Cuddy, born December 2, 1955 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian singer-songwriter who was best known for the alternative country rock band Blue Rodeo . Over the years he has also released four solo albums with the Jim Cuddy Band until 2018.
Life
Cuddy grew up in a relocating family in Montreal and Brantford , Ontario and partly in the USA. He later attended North Toronto Collegiate Institute High School. He studied at Upper Canada College , where he received a BA in English Language and Literature.
With his high school friend Greg Keelor , he formed a first band called Hi Fis as a teenager . The two musicians and songwriters were after a three year (1981-1984) joint attempt to be successful as musicians in New York City, back in Toronto with Blue Rodeo from 1986 a well-known alternative country rock band. At the celebration of the Juno Awards 2009, the Roots Rock Band was recognized with the induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame .
In addition to intensive studio and concert activities with Blue Rodeo , Cuddy released his first solo album, All in Time , in 1998 , recorded at the Toronto Chemical Sound recording studio. The album featured Blue Rodeo bassist Bazil Donovan and keyboardist James Gray. Like the following solo albums, All in Time contained pieces written exclusively by Cuddy. A duet with Jeff Tweedy from Wilco , ( I'll Make Believe It's You ) as well as guest appearances by friends, celebrity singer-songwriter colleagues Sarah Harmer and Michelle McAdorey were included. Two more albums under his own name with the Jim Cuddy Band also came into the Canadian album charts.
In 2016, Blue Rodeo's 18th album was released , which, like the previous works, only contained sings written jointly by Keelor and Cuddy.
After a long break, Cuddy released a solo album with Constellation in January 2018 , which reached the top of the Canadian album charts a month later.
Cuddy is married to the actress Rena Polley, who is mainly present on Canadian television . Together they have three grown children, two sons and a daughter.
