Barbara Schnitzler (born February 19, 1953 in Berlin ) is a German theater and television actress .

Life

Barbara Schnitzler was born in Berlin as the daughter of the actress Inge Keller and the journalist and television presenter Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler . She received her training at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art . From 1977 to 2018 she was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin , where she worked with Friedo Solter , Johanna Schall , Thomas Langhoff , Robert Wilson , Wolfgang Engel , Michael Thalheimer , Jürgen Gosch , Andreas Kriegenburg , Jette Steckel , Jürgen Kruse and Stephan, among others Kimmig worked.

In February 2010, Barbara Schnitzler premiered at the Deutsches Theater with her solo evening The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion , directed by Gabriele Heinz . In March 2013, she performed her recital “Just drive carousel”, with Nikolai Orloff accompanying her on the piano.

Barbara Schnitzler has been working as a freelancer since 2018. Directed by Lore Stefanek , she premiered in 2019 at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt as Teiresias in Antigone des Sophocles.

It also has an extensive repertoire of readings from the works of great writers, for example by Ödön von Horváth , Christa Wolf , Virginia Woolf , Friedrich Schiller , Gabriele Tergit , Mascha Kaléko , Ingeborg Bachmann , Arthur Schnitzler , Thomas Mann and Alice Munro . She also works regularly as a voice actress and for radio.

She is married to the film and television director Michael Knof and has two daughters, Pauline Knof and Louise Knof, who are also actresses.
