Hans Kratzert (born February 3, 1940 in Heerwegen , Glogau district ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

During his childhood, Kratzert and his family were evicted several times, first by the SS from Neisse and later by the Czechoslovak authorities. After his expulsion from Czechoslovakia and the divorce of his parents, he grew up with his three siblings with his mother in the Altmark .

During his school days, Kratzert worked as an actor in stage performances by William Shakespeare , Bertolt Brecht and Wladimir Wladimirowitsch Mayakowski .

After graduating from the Beetzendorf boarding school , he applied to the Potsdam Film School , but was rejected due to his age. Thereupon he did his basic military service in the NVA of the GDR . In 1960 he reapplied to the film school in Potsdam and began studying directing there. In 1964 he received his diploma with the film adventurer and then worked for Kurt Maetzig as an assistant director.

His first feature film was the crime film Murder on Monday in 1968, based on a story by Franz Wysbar . After this film, Kratzert was asked by the dramaturges Gudrun Deubener and Inge Desert of the artistic working group “Children and Youth Films” of the DEFA studio for feature films whether he would make children's films. Kratzert accepted and soon became one of DEFA's most successful children's film directors. First he made Indian films for adults and a film about life after the Second World War . From 1974 to 1989, Kratzert focused primarily on children's films. His last film was Der Drache Daniel , which was realized in 1989 in Wusterhausen / Dosse .

With the liquidation of DEFA, Kratzert was terminated. Initially unemployed, he made documentary and video films for various small film companies. Later he created video reports about the region for the Pro Brandenburg association .

Kratzert published several papers on the subject of children's films and was a member of the children's film working group in the feature film section of the GDR Association of Film and Television Workers.

Hans Kratzert is married and previously lived in Potsdam and since 2000 in Falkensee .
