Wolfgang Huebscher (born March 26, 1942 ) was a football player in East Berlin . For 1. FC Union Berlin he played at times in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German soccer class.

Athletic career

Hübscher started his career as a football player with the East Berlin company sports community (BSG) Einheit Treptow. Between 1962 and 1963 he played for one season at SG Adlershof , with whom he played in the third-class II. DDR -Liga. When the II. League was dissolved at the end of the season, Huebscher moved to the second division TSC Berlin , where he initially belonged to the first team until October 1965. In November 1965 he was drafted into the army for 18 months, but during this time he was still able to play football in the GDR league with the Vorwärts Neubrandenburg army sports community .

After his discharge from the army, Hübscher returned to East Berlin in May 1967 and joined 1. FC Union, which had been spun off from TSC Berlin a year earlier and which was now playing in the major league. Hübscher was used as a winger in two Intercup games in the summer of 1967 and in the first two league league games of the 1967/68 season, but was then replaced by Jürgen Stoppok . His first league game was the match between 1. FC Union and Chemie Leipzig (0-0) on August 12, 1967. In the second half of the season he was initially used in five games in the league, so that he only came to a total of two Intercup games, seven league matches and one use in the GDR cup competition. In 1968/69 Hübscher only played the first season game in the major league, in addition he was used in the 2nd team, which now played in the third-rate district league. With this team he was East Berlin champion at the end of the season. Since the first team was relegated to the GDR league at the same time, Union II had to remain in the district league. For Hübscher there was an interplay between the district and GDR league in the following season 1969/70. In the immediate resurgence of the 1st Union team, he was involved with ten missions in 30 played point games. Hübscher played his last game for the 1st team on March 29, 1970 in the GDR League local derby BFC Dynamo II - 1. FC Union (1-0). After a total of 23 competitive games, eight of them in the league, Hübscher retired from 1. FC Union Berlin at the end of the 1969/70 season at the age of 28.

He then played with the East Berlin BSG EAB Lichtenberg 47 again in the district league and was there in 1971 for the second time in his career city champion. The championship led to promotion to the GDR league, in which Hübscher was active until his final departure from competitive sports in 1973. As a recreational footballer, he then played for the fourth-class BSG Turbine BEWAG Berlin , which he helped to advance to the district league in 1974.
