The Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf (spelling: Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF ; officially: University of Film and Television Potsdam-Babelsberg ) is a state art and film university with the right to award doctorates in the Babelsberg district of Potsdam . It is the oldest and largest film school in Germany and the only one in university rank since 2014. It is also the only art college in Brandenburg and, together with u. a. the Babelsberg studio in the media city of Babelsberg .

history

The institution was founded with effect from November 1, 1954 as the German Academy for Film Art in Babelsberg Palace, with its headquarters in Potsdam-Babelsberg, and was renamed the GDR Academy for Film and Television in 1969 . Education

The Film University Babelsberg offers courses on the subject of film. The degrees to be achieved are the Bachelor of Arts or Master of Arts. The Media Studies course is the most research-oriented course at the Film University and includes basic academic research and application-oriented research that reflects artistic practice. This includes media analysis, reception aesthetics, media conception and planning, culture and event management, program planning and development in audiovisual media, advice on the production and distribution of audiovisual media, journalistic, editorial and conceptual activities, conception and planning of educational and further training offers with media support , as well as university teaching and research. Students of the Media Studies course organize the largest student film festival in Europe every year with Sehs Bäumen , which takes place in April on the university campus and the Thalia art house cinema at the Babelsberg S-Bahn station .

The Film University is the only university in the German-speaking region to provide explicit training in the area of ​​media-specific representation in its Acting degree program on the basis of sound theater training.
