At the end of the forest is a German short film by Felix Ahrens . In 2016 it won the Student Academy Award ( Oscar ) for best short film.
action
Elke, a young policewoman, and her colleague Armin are on patrol near the Czech border. During a routine vehicle inspection, a young Czech defies her police orders and is shot dead by Elke. Elke is then suspended from duty for the duration of the internal investigation and sinks into a deep hole of guilt. When these become unbearable at some point, Elke sets out for the Czech Republic to find the family of the victim.
Criticism and background
“With his short film AM ENDE DER WALD, Felix Ahrens has succeeded in creating an exciting thriller that is surprising right up to the end, and which maintains its great atmospheric density from the first to the last minute. The camera is very close to the protagonist Elke, for whom Henrike von Kuick is the ideal cast. Elke is rough, not really a popular figure - and yet one is ready to accompany her through the film, to experience the various feelings with her, from fear to defiance to despair. The pictures are characterized by oppressive darkness, the play of colors from gray to green covers the film like a carpet and reflects the situation. "
The film was made as a bachelor thesis at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf .
