William Tummel

William F. Tummell (born March 5, 1892 in Kansas City , Missouri , † November 16, 1977 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American assistant director who received the Oscar for best assistant director at the Academy Awards in 1934 .

biography

Tummel began working for The Wheel (1925) in the mid-1920s as an assistant director, was involved in the production of nearly 60 films by 1947 and was one of the seven winners of the Academy Awards in 1934 in the category of best assistant director.

His best-known works as an assistant director include The Strange Taming of the Gangster Bride Sugarpuss (1941), The Little Foxes (1941), To be or not to be (1942) and In the Shadow of Doubt (1943). He worked with film directors such as Howard Hawks , William Wyler , Ernst Lubitsch and Alfred Hitchcock .
