The 1934 Academy Awards took place on March 16, 1934 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles . It was the 6th Annual Academy Awards . Films from the period between August 1, 1932 and December 31, 1933 were awarded.

In the previous year there was no Oscar ceremony, because in future the films from the previous calendar year were to be honored. The new category Best Assistant Director lasted only five years. Katharine Hepburn won her first of four later Academy Awards for Best Actress .
