Charles Barton (director)
Charles T. Barton (born May 25, 1902 in San Francisco , California , † December 5, 1981 in Burbank , California) was an American film director .
Life
Charles Barton first appeared in the film business in 1920, and took on a role in the film The County Fair . He began his directing career as an assistant director in the late 1920s. In 1934 he made his directorial debut with the Western Pioneers of the West . From 1946 he turned mainly comedies with the film couple Abbott and Costello . In the 1950s his work shifted more and more to television, since the 1960s mainly worked for television and was involved in various television series. In 1934 he won an Oscar in the now defunct category of Best Assistant Director .
Barton was married to actress Julie Gibson (* 1913) from 1973 until his death from a heart attack in 1981 .
