Great guys in use is an American comedy film from the year 1956 . It is the last film with the comedian duo Abbott and Costello .
action
Lou Henry and Bud Flick run the Kiddyland theme park. The two friends live together and have taken in the orphans Duffer and Shelly. The social worker Miss Mayberry is convinced that the children live in unreasonable circumstances and wants to take them from friends. Miss Mayberry cites one of the reasons Bud is a gambler and owes $ 10,000 to the arcade owner Big Frank.
Big Frank offers Bud to cancel the debt if Bud hires himself out as a money launderer. Bud is supposed to meet Big Frank's employee Mushie at the amusement park to accept the money and a plane ticket. Lou informs Proctor of the plan to visit the theme park when Bud and Mushie meet. Mushie recognizes the prosecutor. Mushie hides the money ($ 200,000), kills Proctor, and gets Lou on suspicion of murder. This is reason enough for Miss Mayberry to put the children in a home.
Bud lets Mushie know he knows the right killer. Mushie threatens to kill Bud, but is killed by Big Frank and his partner Dutch. Bud is kidnapped by the two and is supposed to show them the hiding place. At the same time, Lou is released by the police. He is supposed to bring the detectives to Bud, but is also kidnapped by Big Frank. Bud tells Big Frank that the money is hidden in the theme park. The police follow the group. Bud gets Big Frank to confess to the murder in a stall and secretly records it. Lou takes the tape and escapes.
Duffer and Shelly have run away and want to hide in the amusement park. They see the fleeing Lou and get help in the home. Come back to the park with some other kids. The children stop the gangsters, who are then caught by the police. The reward for capturing the gangsters is donated to the home by Bud and Lou. Miss Mayberry realizes that they have a good heart and lets the children move back to them.
criticism
The lexicon of international film describes the film as "an entertaining series slapstick without thematic and staging surprises; the well-known turbulent effort is combined with nonsensical, grotesque ideas and jokes about the film plot."
AH Weiler of the New York Times wrote that the impression that changing the clichéd structure of the Abbott and Costello films could only be good was too hasty.
background
The film premiered on December 22, 1956. In Germany it was released on April 25, 1958.
In April 1957 the duo separated due to tax problems. The two had to sell their houses and the rights to their films. Abbott and Costello have appeared as a duo in 34 films.
