Abraham H. Weiler (born December 10, 1908 in Russia , † January 22, 2002 in Astoria , New York City ) was an American film critic and journalist .

Life

AH Weiler was born in Russia to a Jewish family who emigrated to New York City only a short time later . He grew up on the Lower East Side . Weiler originally wanted to study medicine, but decided to study at the City College of New York . He found a job as an archivist at the renowned New York Times , where he was later able to build up his reputation in the culture department, mainly as a film critic and with a column on Sunday, so that he was finally able to serve as President of the New York Film Critics Association serve.

In honor of his friend Weilers and his unwillingness to become a doctor, the writer Richard Condon named a character who appeared in many of his novels, Dr. Hamlet.

The widowed hamlet died on January 22, 2002 at the age of 93 in his home in Queens, New York . He left a daughter.
