Sarah Y. Mason
Sarah Y. Mason (born March 31, 1896 in Pima , Arizona , † November 28, 1980 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter who adapted the Oscar for best at the Academy Awards in 1934 together with her husband Victor Heerman Received screenplay for Four Sisters .
Life
Sarah Mason began her long career in the film industry by soliciting director Allan Dwan for a role. However, this hired her for his film crew for the romantic comedy Arizona (1918), making her the first script supervisor in film history . Shortly thereafter, she met the screenwriter Victor Heerman and worked with him after the marriage in 1920 mainly as a writer duo. In 1929 she was script supervisor for The Broadway Melody , an early talkie by Harry Beaumont . In 1934, the couple received the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for the screenplay of George Cukor's Four Sisters (1933), which is based on the novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott .
Other well-known films with originals written by her and her husband were The Age of Innocence (1934) by Philip Moeller , Magnificent Obsession (1935) by John M. Stahl , Stella Dallas (1937) by King Vidor , Golden Boy (1939) by Rouben Mamoulian and Little Brave Jo (1949) by Mervyn LeRoy , another film adaptation of Alcott's novel Little Woman .
