Fred Jackman
Fred Woodruff Jackman (born July 9, 1881 in Tama County , Iowa , † August 27, 1959 in Hollywood , California ) was an American cinematographer, film director and special effects technician.
Life
Fred Jackman began his film career in 1916 as a cameraman and was mainly used for short films. He was chief cameraman for over 80 films. From 1925 Jackman also directed. He has directed films 11 times, including four short films.
In 1925 Jackman also took care of technical aspects at Warner Bros. So he soon got around to producing the special effects for cameras. By 1941 he worked in this field for 22 films.
From 1921 to 1923 he was President of the American Society of Cinematographers .
In 1934 , Fred Jackman and Sidney Saunders were awarded the Academy Award for Technical Merit by RKO Studios, Inc. and Fox Film Corporation . This honored her development of the transparent cellulose screen for picture montages.
