The Erich Pommer Institute (EPI) is an institute for media law , media economics and media research based in the media city of Babelsberg . The EPI is an affiliated institute of the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf and the University of Potsdam . Philipp Künstle has been the managing director since 2020.

Institute

The Erich Pommer Institute was founded in 1998. The institute was named after the important film producer Erich Pommer , who, in addition to his interest in technical innovations, was committed to promoting young filmmakers as well as training his employees.

The institute develops on a scientific basis and against the background of media convergence solutions for the media economy, media policy and media education.

The range of topics ranges from media management issues, such as film financing or TV format trading, to media law issues, e.g. B. Copyright or licensing law, digital media law and media management as well as practical and political aspects of media convergence, up to questions of media use and media design .

In terms of continuing education, the institute organizes numerous events in Germany as well as throughout Europe and in Canada . Online training has also been offered since 2015. The institute also prepares independent reports and studies and advises companies, associations and institutions.

Specialist conferences and congresses are organized on various topics, for example on topics such as copyright policy and big data . Among other things, the EPI organizes every two years in cooperation with the Babelsberg Film University a conference on current issues in the media industry, which is aimed at those interested in the film industry, the arts and sciences, and cultural and economic policy.

In addition, the EPI is involved in programs to promote women in management positions in media companies.

The institute is sponsored by media companies and public institutions. The cooperation partners and the advisory board support and advise its activities.

research

The research questions arising from the activities of the institute flow into the institute's advanced training seminars and are transferred to the fields of practice, politics and the public.
