Jürgen Traugott Hans Böttcher (born July 8, 1931 in Frankenberg / Sa. , Saxony ), known under the pseudonym Strawalde , is a German painter and film director who has lived in Berlin-Karlshorst for several years .

Life

Böttcher grew up in Strahwalde in Upper Lusatia and studied painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1949 to 1953 . He then stayed in Dresden as a freelance artist until 1955 and taught in adult education courses, among others AR Penck , Peter Makolies , Peter Graf and Peter Herrmann , who formed the artist group Erste Phalanx Nedserd .

From 1955 to 1960 he studied directing at the University of Film and Television Potsdam and worked in the DEFA documentary film studio in Berlin until 1991 . Since 1975 he has had exhibitions with his pictures and graphics in Erfurt, Berlin, Dresden and Karl-Marx-Stadt, among others, and since 1990 in Paris, Brussels, Toronto, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne and Darmstadt.

In 1994 he was awarded the title “Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French President François Mitterrand for his complete artistic work. In Germany, Böttcher, who signs the works with Strawalde, borrowed after his place of birth, received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2001 . In 2006 he was honored with a camera at the Berlinale .

Böttcher's pictures can be found in the following public collections, among others: National Gallery Berlin , Collection of the German Bundestag in the Reichstag building , Albertinum (Dresden) , Dresden Residenzschloss , Albertina (Vienna) , Bibliothèque nationale de France , Museum Ludwig , Boston Public Library .

Film retrospectives took place in 1986 in the Center Pompidou in Paris, in 1988 at the Edinburgh 42nd International Film Festival and in 1989 in the German Film Museum in Frankfurt am Main.
