Großkochberg - Garden of the Public Landscape is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Jürgen Böttcher from 1977.

action

Großkochberg is located about 30 km south of Weimar and was the former country seat of the von Stein family. This gained fame through Goethe's love for Charlotte von Stein and his frequent visits between 1776 and 1786. The park and the park architecture were extensively reconstructed in the second half of the 20th century and on May 24th 1975 the castle Kochberg was transformed into a memorial handed over to the public.

At the inauguration ceremony, students from the Liszt School of Music Weimar perform an opera performance of the Barber of Seville by Giovanni Paisiello . With the help of old engravings and pictures, the viewer learns more about the relationship between Goethe and Charlotte von Stein, supplemented by numerous quotes from his letters to her. Shown are recordings of the preparations of the musicians, the arrival of the guests, the opera performance and the meals of the visitors present in the garden of the palace.

production

Großkochberg - Garden of the Public Landscape was filmed on ORWO color under the working title Festival concert on the occasion of the celebrations 1000 Years Weimar and had its world premiere on July 15, 1977. The film was broadcast on the first program on August 27, 1979 on East German television.
