Konrad Schwalbe

Konrad Schwalbe (born December 15, 1927 in Kahla ; † June 10, 2004 in Lehnin ) was a German dramaturge , film scholar and rector .

Life

Konrad Schwalbe completed a partial degree in German and philosophy at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena by 1950 and then worked as an editor at Thuringian Volksverlag in Erfurt . As early as December 1951, he was able to take up an apprenticeship at the Chair for Theory and History of Literature and Art in the Berlin Institute for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED . After graduating as an art historian, he received his doctorate in philosophy in December 1956. After a year as a research assistant at the Central Committee of the SED , in September 1957 he became secretary of the artistic council and chief dramaturge in the DEFA studio for feature films in Potsdam - Babelsberg .

In the fall of 1960, Konrad Schwalbe took over as professor at the German Academy for Film Art in Babelsberg Castle, leading the field of scenario training . In 1964 he became a member of the scientific and artistic advisory board of the main film administration at the Ministry of Culture of the GDR . Among the festivities to mark the tenth anniversary of the university in November 1964, he was to succeed Kurt Maetzig , the office of the rector transferred, and he was re-elected in 1966 by the Senate for another term. He held the office until 1969 and then returned to his old department as a lecturer. In September 1977 Konrad Schwalbe was appointed full professor for the history of film and television art and taught in this position at the university the dramaturgy of feature films, film analysis, montage theory, the technique of scriptwriting and working with creative means and processes. From October 1980 to 1986 he was reappointed rector of the university, which since 1969 has been renamed the University of Film and Television of the GDR . He then returned to teaching and researching film and television studies until he retired in 1992.

Konrad Schwalbe died on June 10, 2004 at the age of 77.
