Thuringian Volksverlag

The Thüringer Volksverlag - later Volksverlag Weimar - was a publishing house in the former GDR and was founded on July 13, 1945. The KPD- owned, later SED- Verlag published the daily newspaper Thüringer Volk (later renamed Das Volk ) , music books and other books (especially novels) and printed SED materials.

From 1947 the Thuringian Volksverlag belonged to the majority of VOB Zentrag and in 1948, in addition to the activities in publishing, was the legal entity for five party-owned SED printing works and 28 printing works with the status of a state- owned enterprise . In 1951 the traditional Pierersche Hofdruckerei was taken over.

The Volksverlag Weimar published the series Deutsches Land - Heimatland .

As part of the reorganization of the GDR publishing landscape, the so-called "Profiling", it was transferred to the Aufbau-Verlag in 1964 .
