Jen, in her mid-twenties, is fed up with hectic city life and her job in the fashion industry. She drives to her old friend Till in the Brandenburg desert and joins the artists' colony Rakete Perelman . There ten people have come together to form a self-sufficient community apart from bourgeois society. Jen experiences a completely new way of life in the modern commune that oscillates back and forth between individualism and community and between art and commerce. The municipality also needs money to survive. That is why the community founder Tobias wants to generate urgently needed income with a theater performance. He signed Jen, along with Till and the filmmaker Miro, to play the leading roles. When work on the play begins, open conflicts arise within the commune, forcing them to take a stand on their idealism.

Reviews

Harald Mühlbeyer from kino-zeit.de praises the fact that Oliver Alaluukas “traces the development of the Perelman rocket from the perspective of the newcomer in beautiful, wide cinemascope images”. In addition, the critic states that this is "psychologically not as intense as Marie Kreutzer's Die Vaterlosen " and "cinematically not as radical as Lars von Trier's Idiots ". Alaluukas tell “conventionally but intelligently about the small tensions that can lead to large upheavals. Turning points, new perspectives, and surprises emerge from the characters quite casually and without much fanfare. Figures to whom Alaluukas gives everyone their space to develop, which he brings us closer - and who then act unexpectedly at the decisive moment. "

Björn Schneider from Programmkino.de praises the cast of the film. The actors would "give their characters a high degree of natural charm with their sympathetic, down-to-earth, unaffected way of playing." And this would offer “plenty of identification potential”.

Falk Straub from Spielfilm.de also praised the acting and the visual language of the film: “With all the convincing acting," Rocket Perelman "is also a beautifully photographed film. Cinematographer Valentin Selmke is also making his long-haul debut and wrestling some impressive views from the Brandenburg landscape or the nightly party in a fluorescent look. ”However, Falk Straub criticizes that the narration of the film“ reveals its construction too easily ”and“ ultimately something insubstantial ”would remain.
