A documentary by Therese Koppe from 2019 is quietly loud . It portrays Erika Stürmer-Alex and Christine Müller-Stosch - two 81-year-old women who live on an art courtyard in Brandenburg . The film celebrated its premiere on October 29, 2019 in the German competition of the DOK Leipzig documentary film festival .

action

The film begins with Erika Stürmer-Alex making the house that she lives together with Christine Müller-Stosch winterproof - a metaphor for old age, but also for persistent self-assertion against adverse circumstances. In the next scene, the two old women, reading from their Stasi files , amused themselves about how little the Stasi understood about what made their lives so special. Her everyday life on the self-developed farm in Lietzen on the edge of the Oderbruch forms the framework for the film. At the same time, a multifaceted picture of two special biographies in the GDR and in reunified Germany emerges in the dialogues as well as in excerpts from diaries, with private photos and film sequences of performances.

production

The film was made as a final project at the Babelsberg Film University "Konrad Wolf" . It was shot mainly on the estate of Erika Stürmer-Alex and Christine Müller-Stosch in Lietzen.

criticism

Luc-Carolin Ziemann, curator of DOK Leipzig, describes “Im Stillen Laut” as “a beguilingly clear narrative about freedom, autonomy, creativity and sociality - and not least a wonderful ode to love.” Peter Klucken writes in the Rheinische Post , one could have “watched and listened to the two artists for hours. Therese Koppe tells her life story in 74 wonderful minutes ” .

Awards

The film was the audience's favorite at the DOK Leipzig 2019 documentary film festival and received an honorable mention from the VER.DI prize for solidarity, humanity and fairness. The audience award of the 43rd Duisburg Film Week for the festival's most popular film also went to “Im Stillen Laut”, awarded by the Rheinische Post .
