Dieter Wiedemann (* 1946 in Liebschitz , ČSR) is a German media scientist and media educator.

Life

Wiedemann attended school in Suhl since 1952 and graduated from high school there in 1964. From 1967 to 1971 he studied drama and theater studies at the Theater Academy Leipzig and Film Studies at the University of Film and Television in Babelsberg . After completing his studies as a graduate dramaturge, he began his work at the Central Institute for Youth Research in Leipzig in 1971 , where he initially worked as a research assistant until 1989 and later as a department head. From 1972 to 1975 he completed a second degree in educational psychology at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , graduating with a diploma in education. In 1980 Wiedemann received his doctorate (dissertation A), and in 1988 he completed his habilitation (dissertation B).

In 1990, Wiedemann moved to the "Konrad Wolf" University of Film and Television . There he was director of the institute for media research from 1990 to 1992 and in 1993 founding representative of the AV media studies course . Since April 1995 he has been professor for AV media studies at the HFF. In July 1995 he was unanimously elected as successor to Wolf-Dieter Panses as rector of the university, and in May 2000 he was re-elected as president. In April 2012 he was officially adopted as president, but continued to serve until his retirement in December 2012. Martin Steyer temporarily headed the HFF as interim president until the economist Susanne Stürmer Wiedemann succeeded him in October 2013 .

From 1999 to 2007, Wiedemann was chairman of the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture (GMK).

He has written numerous publications on film and television, in particular on reception and impact with a focus on children and young people, as well as on the processing and critical evaluation of DEFA film heritage and children's television in the GDR.
