Helmut Krätzig (born October 23, 1933 in Augsburg ; † July 9, 2018 ) was a German film director and screenwriter who occasionally appeared as an actor.

Life

Krätzig studied German with Hans Mayer in Leipzig . His fellow students included Uwe Johnson and Jochen Ziem . Krätzig then started working as an assistant director on the DFF production Papa's new girlfriend , in which he could also be seen as an actor. His first feature film as a director, Dead Don't Talk , was made two years later. In addition to a few movies, Krätzig directed mostly television. After having worked on a number of Blaulicht episodes, Krätzig directed the first episode of the crime film series Polizeiruf 110 , The Lisa Murnau case , in 1971 . Numerous other films in the series under his direction and partly with him as an actor followed.

In 1983, Krätzig was criticized by the GDR as one of the directors who “found an unmistakable individuality in the abundance of material [of the television film] to deal with”.

Helmut Krätzig died on July 9, 2018.
