occupation

Ich - Axel Caesar Springer (subtitle: Explanation of a miracle - facts and interpretations ) is a propaganda-tinged cinematic biography of the publisher Axel Springer of the German TV broadcaster (DFF) of the GDR . The five-part television series was broadcast from 1968 to 1970.

In the film, the career of the publisher Axel Springer is propagandistically and sometimes deliberately dramatized. The first performance took place in the first program of the DFF television on March 17, November 30 and December 1, 1968 and on March 1 and 3, 1970. The project was implemented by DEFA with immense material and human resources : the five-part series cost over 7,000,000 GDR marks . Internally, the film is said to have been judged to be too crude because it was too obviously polemic .

action

  1. From the difficult beginning : Germany in 1945/46: Springer receives the license for his newspaper Weisse Weste in Altona . He owes it to his old, influential friends Lorenz and Alsen.
  2. Men are made : In the Federal Republic of the 1950s, Springer secured friends in all political camps. On the other hand, he ruthlessly fights his competitor Antje Broschek from the Hamburg foreign newspaper. Springer's papers meanwhile determine the political opinion of the population.
  3. Be nice to each other : The works council of the foreign newspaper collects explosive and incriminating material about Springer's past. Axel Caesar Springer marries Lorenz's daughter Rosemarie. She helps him found the tabloid Bild .
  4. The made man : Towards the end of the 1950s, Springer pushed for the hotly contested Berlin newspaper market. It mainly competes with the newspapers of the Ullstein publishing house . Springer uses his political influence to weaken its market position.
  5. The kingmaker : Berlin, early 1960s. While the competition between Springer and Ullstein continues, he plans to build his new high- rise publishing house right on the German sector border in Berlin.
