Norbert Christian (born December 5, 1925 in Berlin ; † December 18, 1976 there ; born Christian Hengst ) was a German actor .

After graduating from high school in 1943, he attended Helene Lackner's drama school for six months and then made his debut at the Greifswald City Theater . From 1949 to 1952 he played at the Rostock Volkstheater , where he also directed. In 1952, through Bertolt Brecht, he joined the Berliner Ensemble , of which he was a member until 1971. Guest performances have taken him to the Volksbühne and the Deutsches Theater .

His stage roles included Franz Moor in Die Räuber , the Wurm in Kabale und Liebe , Babberly in Charley's Aunt , Zwirn in Lumpazivagabundus , Cardinal Inquisitor in The Life of Galileo , Peachum in The Threepenny Opera , Alba in Egmont , Clark in The Resistant Rise of Arturo Ui , Philipp in Don Carlos , Mephisto in Urfaust and the title characters of Captain von Koepenick and Hamlet .

He also worked in numerous film and television productions. Unlike on stage, however, he was a supporting actor here . Norbert Christian died at the age of 51 while filming the multi-part part Farewell to Peace . After his death, Erwin Geschonneck took over the role of Dr. Friedrich Rankl.

Christian was with the actress and author Myriam Sello-Christian , geb. Seligsohn (1917–1970) and most recently married to the actress Erdmute Schmid-Christian . The actor and voice actor Michael Christian (1947-2006) came from the first marriage . Christian was buried in the Friedrichsfelde central cemetery in Berlin-Lichtenberg .
