Life
The son of the carpenter Thomas Rücker (who was partly of Jewish origin) and his wife Johanna, née Schmidt, attended secondary school in his place of birth in Bohemia and graduated from high school in 1942. As a soldier in World War II, he became a British prisoner of war. From 1945 he lived in Leipzig , where he began studying at the “Hans Otto” theater school . He later lived in East Berlin and Meiningen.
From 1951 he worked for radio - first as a director, from 1952 as a radio play writer - working with Paul Dessau , among others . Rücker had been a member of the German Writers' Association since 1954 . From 1955 on in the film industry, after his first documentaries, Rücker was mainly employed as a feature film writer. The author also became known as a playwright: Der Herr Schmidt - A German Spectacle with Police and Music (1969), which dealt with the Cologne communist trial, was his first success in this regard. His drama The Neighbor of Mr Panza also premiered in the same year . In addition, many radio plays come from Rücker - the monologue radio play was a genre to which he devoted himself particularly.
