Günther Rücker (born February 2, 1924 in Reichenberg , Czechoslovakia , † February 24, 2008 in Meiningen ) was a German storyteller, playwright and director. He wrote radio plays , scripts, novels and stories.

Life

The son of the carpenter Thomas Rücker (who was partly of Jewish origin) and his wife Johanna, née Schmidt, attended secondary school in his place of birth in Bohemia and graduated from high school in 1942. As a soldier in World War II, he became a British prisoner of war. From 1945 he lived in Leipzig , where he began studying at the “Hans Otto” theater school . He later lived in East Berlin and Meiningen.

From 1951 he worked for radio - first as a director, from 1952 as a radio play writer - working with Paul Dessau , among others . Rücker had been a member of the German Writers' Association since 1954 . From 1955 on in the film industry, after his first documentaries, Rücker was mainly employed as a feature film writer. With Wolfgang Kohlhaase he wrote z. B. the screenplay for Der Fall Gleiwitz (1961), one of the most important DEFA films of all.

The author also became known as a playwright: Der Herr Schmidt - A German Spectacle with Police and Music (1969), which dealt with the Cologne communist trial, was his first success in this regard. His drama The Neighbor of Mr Panza also premiered in the same year . In addition, many radio plays come from Rücker - the monologue radio play was a genre to which he devoted himself particularly.

Since 1972 a member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR (re-elected in 1991), Rücker was secretary of the poetry and language maintenance section from 1974 to 1982 and a member of the Academy's executive committee.

As an unofficial employee of the Ministry for State Security with the code name "Günther", Rücker has been employed since 1978 to enforce cultural policy guidelines in the Academy of the Arts and to directly observe Academy members such as Franz Fühmann and Konrad Wolf . Since 1978 Rücker was also a member of the central board of the German Writers' Association .

Günter Rücker was the first husband of actress Vera Oelschlegel (* 1938).
