from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CineGraph - lexicon for German-language film is a loose-leaf -scale reference .

The handbook, internationally recognized as a standard work , contains bio- and filmographic information on over 1000 filmmakers from German-speaking countries. In addition to directors and actors , scriptwriters , producers , cameramen , production designers , film editors , publicists and film politicians who have played a role in German, Austrian and Swiss film since the end of the 19th century are shown. In addition to famous stars, many forgotten and - due to the political course of time - displaced filmmakers are treated.

There are two basic types of entries:

  • detailed entries ( maxi ), which consist of a biography (with photo, list of awards and references) and a detailed filmography. Many of these entries are supplemented by essays in which authors critically examine important aspects of the work of the filmmakers discussed.
  • concise bio-filmographies ( mini ) that document the work in a concise biography and a filmographic title list.

The lexicon was designed by Hans-Michael Bock together with Hans Helmut Prinzler in the late 1970s and has been published by the Munich publisher edition text + kritik since 1984 . The basis is CineBase , an extensive filmographic database, the basis of which was technically developed by Wau Holland in 1979 .

The editor of the CineGraph Lexicon is Hans-Michael Bock, supported by an editorial team - u. a. Jörg Schöning, Stephanie Schönbeck and Robert Wohlleben - as well as numerous international correspondents and authors. It is constantly updated and supplemented and corrected by one or two subsequent deliveries a year.

The entries were developed in cooperation with German and international cinematheques . A small selection of the biographies can be researched on the Internet via the websites www.Cinegraph.de and www.filmportal.de.

In 1989, members of the Lexicon editorial team founded the non-profit association CineGraph - Hamburg Center for Film Research , which has been organizing an international film history congress every year since 1988. Since 2004 the congress has been part of cinefest - International Festival of German Film Heritage , Hamburg, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Wiesbaden and Zurich.

The work on the lexicon and the events at the center resulted in numerous monographs and handbooks on film history. a. the series CineGraph Buch , which publishes the results of the congresses, and FILMtext with scripts from German film classics from the archive of the Deutsche Kinemathek .
