The barbed animal: You should have a horse is a black and white German satirical short fiction film from the DEFA studio for fiction films by Heinz Thiel from 1961 based on a story by Walter Karl Schweickert .
action
The house owner, Mr Psichinski, excitedly rings the doorbell of his tenant Mr Semmler and asks him to join him in investigating the strange noises in the attic. While looking for a candle, you can see all kinds of structural defects in your apartment. That means, stovepipes are patched and run through the kitchen, the drain connection for the sink is missing, and a few other things. On the ground you can immediately see the completely defective roof. But then a full-grown horse is shown what they report to the police station, because it could not have got there via the stairs. The sergeant immediately triggers the alarm, the fire brigade, the press and the radio appear, which also informs the local craftsmen who are marveling at the event. Everyone comes and ponders how the horse gets to the ground, although it can only be brought back onto the street via the roof with various construction measures, which in turn entails a lot of reconstruction work.
After the work is completed, Psischinski's house looks like a “jewel box”. Later he is asked by the policeman how he turned the matter around and he learns that Psischinski brought a foal there 1½ years ago in order to get the attention of the craftsmen at the appropriate time, who had ignored him in the normal way. The policeman promised not to use this confession against him, because he just wanted to know how to cope with the scheduling problems with the craftsmen in his own house.
