Kurt Böwe (1991)

Kurt Böwe (born April 28, 1929 in Reetz , Westprignitz district ; † June 14, 2000 in Berlin ) was a German actor who was very successful in the GDR in film and theater and also to the pan-German audience as Commissioner Groth in the television series Polizeiruf 110 became known.

biography

Böwe was born as one of six children to a farming family in Reetz. Even in his youth he was interested in literature and the theater, so that after he finished his Abitur in 1949, he took an entrance examination at the drama school of the German Theater in Berlin. Although he was admitted, he studied German and theater studies from 1950 to 1954 at the Institute for Theater Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin , in order to start an academic career. After completing his studies, he worked for another six years as an assistant at the university, where he gave lectures on the history of theater and dramaturgy. Parallel to his assistant, he also played at the student theater, where the then director Horst Schönemann persuaded him to pursue acting.

After turning to acting, his first engagement took him to the Maxim Gorki Theater in 1961 . This was followed by a short time at the Volksbühne Berlin , then an engagement at the Landestheater Halle , before he moved back to the stage of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1973. From 1973 to 1997 he was part of the ensemble there and became one of the most famous and popular performers during this time.

His film and television activities also began in Berlin in 1961, initially in small roles, such as in Konrad Wolf's DEFA strip I Was Nineteen , and later also in leading roles, such as Wolf's 1973 feature film The Naked Man on the Sports Field. His portrayal The sculptor Kemmel brought him his breakthrough as a film actor and made him known nationally and internationally. This was followed by countless other film and television activities.

With his distinctive voice he was also active as a dubbing actor and speaker in around 150 radio plays - often for children.

Böwe was awarded the Handel Prize of the Halle district in 1968 and the GDR Art Prize in 1969. In 1971 he received the National Prize of the GDR III. Class for art and literature and 1989 1st class. In 1977 Böwe was honored for his portrayal of the mayor in Uwe Saeger's visit to the dear God with the special critics' award at the GDR radio play award and in 1990 with the Great Hersfeld Prize . In 1998 he acted as the narrator of the seven-part ORB documentary series "The Brandenburger - Chronicle of a Country".

Kurt Böwe was in his second marriage to the radio play dramaturge Heidemarie Böwe , geb. Schönknecht, married. He is the father of four children. His daughters Susanne (* 1964) and Winnie Böwe (* 1973) are also actresses, and Winnie is also an opera singer.

He found his final resting place in the forest cemetery in Krumbeck ( Prignitz district ).
