Gerhard Rosenfeld
Gerhard Rosenfeld (born February 10, 1931 in Königsberg (East Prussia) , † March 5, 2003 in Bergholz-Rehbrücke near Potsdam ) was a German composer . He became known for his film music and opera works , among other things .
Life
Gerhard Rosenfeld studied musicology from 1952 to 1954 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and from 1954 to 57 under Rudolf Wagner-Régeny the subjects of music theory and composition at the German University of Music Berlin. From 1958 to 1961 he was a master student of Hanns Eisler and Leo Spies at the Academy of Arts of the GDR , 1961-1964 lecturer at the International Music Library Berlin and lecturer in music theory at the German Academy of Music in Berlin and for film music at the German University of Film art Potsdam-Babelsberg .
After success with classical music ( violin concerto , 1963), Rosenfeld became one of DEFA's most prominent and busiest film composers in the 1960s . From 1964 he worked as a freelance composer and lived in Bergholz-Rehbrücke . He wrote the music for cinema , documentary , short , children's and cartoons . Among them are classics like I am the rabbit (1965), Alfons Zitterbacke (1966) and The flag of Krivoy Rog (1968). One project that he had been in charge of since 1966 after the reunification of Germany until his death was the long-term documentary The Children of Golzow .
Rosenfeld composed six operas, including The Everyday Miracle (based on Jewgeni Schwarz , premiered in 1973 in Stralsund ), Der Mantel (based on Gogol , premiered in 1978 in Weimar ), The Denial (based on Gogol, premiered in 1989 in Osnabrück ) and Kniefall in Warsaw on Willy Brandt ( Libretto by Philipp Kochheim , first performance 1997 in Dortmund ). The Requiem for Kaza Katharinnna (In memory and in the honor of all persecuted Gypsies ) was premiered in 1991 in the Friedenskirche in Potsdam- Sanssouci and was released on CD in 1996.
In October 1986 he was elected as the successor to Wilhelm Neef as chairman of the Potsdam district association of the GDR's association of composers and musicologists .
Rosenfeld has received several awards for his achievements. In 1968 he received the Hanns Eisler Prize , in 1973 the Art Prize of the GDR and in 1980 the National Prize III. Class .
