Production and DVD

A particular challenge was not being able to shoot at the original locations. Shooting was mainly done in Brandenburg an der Havel , here a London street was recreated in style. Missing English cars were imitated by reversed photos. It was first broadcast on December 23, 1979 at DFF 1.

The film was released on DVD in November 2013, publisher: Icestorm Entertainment .

criticism

The Lexicon of International Films wrote about the “GDR television film based on the socially critical exposé 'Safety First' written by Bertolt Brecht in Hollywood. Staged with an emphasis on alienation, the film remains deliberately cool and dissecting. "

The TV magazine TV Spielfilm awarded one of three possible points for humor, ambition and action, and two for tension, gave a thumbs up and found that the film offered an "excellently well thought-out bluff" and that it was: " Exciting conversation based on an exile story by Bertolt Brecht “act. Conclusion: "GDR television had already turned the corner."
