Icestorm Entertainment is a media company founded in 1997 that specializes in the distribution of formerly videos and now DVDs and Blu-rays . The company became known when it was granted the exclusive license to exploit the films of the DEFA Foundation from Progress Film Distribution in 1998 .

According to its own definition , the company describes itself as follows: Icestorm Entertainment is a German, international company. Icestorm's job is to market cultural film and television content on DVD. The company concentrates on the worldwide acquisition of film licenses for the exclusive distribution of the content on DVD and the provision of the programs on modern information channels such as video-on-demand (VoD) or streaming .

Initially, Icestorm Entertainment mainly evaluated DEFA films on video and put them on the market. In addition to the feature films , cartoons , documentaries and short films as well as the material from the DEFA weekly newsreel Der Augenzeuge and films from the series Das Stacheltier were evaluated . In total there are 13,000 productions. DVDs and now Blu-ray discs were also released later. Almost 100 DEFA films are currently on offer, which makes up more than 10% of the total stock. The core program was initially joined by Russian films and Czechoslovak films as well as television series . The Russian films by the Mosfilm -, Gorkifilm - and Lenfilm studios include the works of Sergei Eisenstein , Andrei Tarkowskis and Yuri Oserows , Alexander Stolpers , Sergei Bondartschuk and classics such as Der Amphibienmensch , Save yourself, who can , Uzala, the Kirghiz , Wie der Steel has been hardened , The Silent Don and The Road to the Stars . One focus is on war , fairy tale and science fiction films. The films are only offered on DVD with German sound, as the exploitation rights were still established in the GDR era and rights were only available for the dubbed versions. The Czechoslovakian films also focus on fairy tale and children's films . In addition, television series such as The Crimes of Major Zeman or The Hospital on the Outskirts of the City are published. Icestorm created a further Eastern European focus with Polish TV series, best known here are four tank soldiers and a dog . In addition to the DEFA films, Icestorm has also been evaluating material from German television as well as new and archive material from the RBB for some time . In addition to GDR and Eastern European productions, Icestorm also publishes German and Austrian Heimatfilme from the 1950s, music documentaries and films, documentaries with GDR or East German references and, to a lesser extent, recent German feature films and documentaries.

Icestorm Entertainment is based in the Neues Deutschland publishing house in Berlin , and Gerhard Sieber is the managing partner . Icestorm Entertainment is the parent company of the Icestorm Group, which is made up of Icestorm Distribution Berlin GmbH. The products are sold in specialist and retail stores as well as through our own internet shop. IcestormTV recently set up an online video library that offers films as video-on-demand or via streaming. In addition, a monthly film is published in the magazine on DVD together with the Super-Illu magazine.
