The criminal cases of Major Zeman (original title: 30 případů majora Zemana ~ The 30 cases of Major Zeman ) is a Czechoslovak television series by Jiří Sequens , which was produced from 1974 to 1979 in 30 episodes. The German synchronization was created at DEFA . The series was broadcast on German television from March 1976 .

action

The series was produced on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the SNB ( Sbor národni bezpečnost = National Security Corps) , which was founded in 1945. Since 1948 it consisted of two departments, Public Security (Veřejná bezpečnost) and State Security ( StB = Statni bezpečnost ) . It takes place in the period from 1945 to 1973. The individual episodes are each self-contained. The episodes are partly based on authentic cases.

The hero of the series is the communist factory worker Jan Zeman , who was sent to a concentration camp by the German occupying forces during World War II . On the advice of comrades , he joined the SNB in 1945 and was promoted from simple police officer to major over the course of the series . He handles normal criminal cases as well as sabotage and espionage matters .

The series was also broadcast in the GDR from 1976 and was repeated for the last time in the winter of 1987/88. It was also performed in Hungary , Bulgaria , Romania , Poland , Cuba , Finland , Japan , Portugal , the USSR and Austria .

controversy

In 1999, on the occasion of a re-broadcast in the Czech Republic , there were public debates about the series, which was accused of conveying communist propaganda and "portraying those who think differently politically as criminals".
