The term police officer is a generic term for certain officers working in the police force .

The German police can include the following professional groups:

  • Police officer (PVB)
  • Officials in the technical police service (e.g. technical police officer ) or in the administrative service of the police (e.g. police chief secretary ). These names only exist in some countries, e.g. B. in Berlin. In other countries, e.g. B. Baden-Wuerttemberg, the police administration has nothing to do with the police, which is already reflected in the official title of "government secretary" etc. of the administrative officers in the police.
  • Officials at general police forces , e.g. B. District office , municipality (e.g. at the municipal enforcement service in Baden-Württemberg), regional council , district police authority , local police authority, which performs the police tasks of this authority (task and designation of the authority varies in each country).

In Austria civil servants or contract employees of the Federal Police fall into the group of executive officers (EB).

Colloquially, the term police officer is also used for the officials of the authorities who perform police tasks or perform tasks in the context of public safety and order. Examples:
