Werner Hecht

Werner Hecht (born December 18, 1926 in Leipzig ; † February 26, 2017 in Berlin ) was a German theater and literary scholar .

Life

After studying with Hans Mayer in Leipzig, Werner Hecht joined the Berliner Ensemble , led by Helene Weigel , as a dramaturge in 1959 , and he became one of their closest collaborators. After Weigel's death, he headed the GDR's Brecht Center , an institution of the Ministry of Culture, until 1990 . He was also responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide range of scientific and cultural-political activities relating to Bert Brecht's work on a national and international level.

The Brecht Center was located in the former home of Brecht and Weigel. It was taken over by the Berlin Senate in 1990 and has been privately owned and operated as a literary forum in the Brecht House since 1992, with different tasks . In 1977 Hecht initiated the opening of the Brecht-Weigel-Haus in Buckow as a museum and memorial.

The life's work of "Brecht-Hecht" is characterized by the publication of the works of Bert Brecht as well as his literary work with biographical texts on Brecht and Weigel. His extensive collection of sources was acquired in 2000 by Bertolt Brecht's job at the University of Karlsruhe .

Werner Hecht was married to the director Christa Mühl .

Werner Hecht found his final resting place in the cemetery of the Dorotheenstädtische and Friedrichswerder parishes in Berlin's Chausseestrasse .
