Facilities in the Brecht House

Brecht Weigel Museum

The Brecht Weigel Museum is part of the Berlin Academy of the Arts . It is located in the former living and working rooms of the Brecht-Weigel couple. Several rooms have been preserved in their original furnishings. The visit is possible as part of guided tours.

Brecht Center of the GDR

The Brecht Center of the GDR was an institution of the Ministry of Culture for the organization and coordination of diverse scientific and cultural-political activities on Brecht's work as well as on current issues of Brecht's reception at home and abroad. This also included German-German cooperation in the publication of Brecht's works. Every year, thematically oriented "Brecht Days" with international (including West German) participation were organized.

In 1990 the facility was taken over by the State of Berlin as the Brecht Center Berlin and in 1992 it was transferred to the literature forum in the Brecht House . The scientific tasks of the Brecht Center were transferred to the Bertolt Brecht office at the University of Karlsruhe .

Werner Hecht , a close colleague of Helene Weigel, was head of the Brecht Center from the time it was founded in 1976 to 1990 .

Literature forum in the Brecht house

The literature forum in the Brecht House has been sponsored by the Society for Meaning and Form e. V.

Even with its expanded profile, the literary forum feels obliged to the work of Bertolt Brecht and the traditions of the Brecht Center. In addition to a wide range of cultural activities, the Brecht Days are still organized every year.
