Opatovice nad Labem (German: Opatowitz ) is a municipality in Okres Pardubice in the Czech Republic .

Opatovice is located in the north of the Pardubice district on the right bank of the Elbe .

history

Opatovice (Czech: opat = abbot ; - vice = settlement or place ) is mentioned for the first time in 1073 in connection with the founding of the Opatowitz monastery , to which the village belonged until the monastery complex was destroyed by the Hussites in 1421. Around the middle of the 15th century, Opatovice and the former monastery property came to Georg von Podiebrad , from whom his son Heinrich d. Ä. inherited.

At the end of the 14th century, Opatowice acquired Wilhelm II von Pernstein , who already owned the Pardubice estate. He built the Opatowitz Canal ( Opatovický kanál ) with a length of 32.7 km. It fed the adjoining ponds where fish was farmed. In 1563 the village consisted of a farm and 21 properties.

Attractions

  • The parish church of St. Laurentius ( Kostel sv. Vavřince ) was probably rebuilt on the site of the former monastery church after 1421 and rebuilt several times.
  • Old Mill ( Moravkův mlýn ) and statue of St. Nepomuk
