Location of the Okres Pardubice

The Okres Pardubice ( German  Pardubice District ) is a district in the Czech Republic and is located in the Pardubický kraj region . With 880 km² it is the smallest district in the district, but at the same time has the highest population density of 182 inhabitants per km². Of the 173,329 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), 56% live in the tenth largest city in the Czech Republic - Pardubice . Of the 112 municipalities, Přelouč , Holice , Chvaletice , Lázně Bohdaneč , Sezemice , Horní Jelení and Dašice are also towns.

The agriculturally usable soil takes up 60% of the area on which mainly grain, animal feed, beets, oil plants and vegetables are grown. Mainly industry has settled in the district, with Pardubice as its center. The strongest industries are chemicals, petrochemicals, mechanical engineering, food processing and the manufacture of gingerbread. Due to foreign investments, electrical engineering and electronics have been added in recent years. Unemployment is around 5.5%.

The district is also the center of culture, education and social life thanks to the district town. The city's tourist attractions include the historic city center with the Green Gate and the Renaissance castle with a museum and gallery. Other nearby attractions include boat trips on the Elbe , the late Gothic castle Kunětická Hora or baroque - Castle Choltice . The area near Kladruby nad Labem is one of the state cultural monuments . The exhibitions in the African Museum in Holice , the local globetrotter Dr. Dedicated to Emil Holub . The district is also involved in the activities of the Euroregion Glacensis .

Hostovice commune became a part of Pardubice in 2006. On January 1, 2007, the communities Radhošť and Týnišťko moved to the Okres Ústí nad Orlicí .
