Euroregion Glacensis
The regional association in the Czech Republic and Poland , the Euroregion Glacensis, pursues the idea of cross-border cooperation and European unity. The aim is also to further develop the friendly and economic contacts between the Czech Republic and Poland. It should also serve to preserve the cultural heritage of this border area. It is based on the "European framework agreement on cross-border cooperation between administrations and organizations in the region", which was adopted by the European Council in Madrid on May 25, 1980 . This Euroregion is the oldest and at the same time the largest in the Czech Republic.
founding
The Euroregion Glacensis was founded on December 5th, 1996 in Hradec Králové . The seat of the Euroregion is Rychnov nad Kněžnou , which is also the seat of the Czech Secretariat of Glacensis, the Polish side is administered in Kłodzko . Currently, 65 municipalities and 11 districts (Okres) are members of the association, which are located in three regions: Region of Hradec Králové , Pardubice and Olomouc Region , covering an area of 1,726 square kilometers with 1,050,245 inhabitants. This makes it the largest Czech-Polish Euroregion with the longest common border.
Tasks of the Euroregion
1. Regional planning 2. Cooperation in the fields of economy and trade 3. The preservation and improvement of environmental conditions 4. Development and adaptation of the intergovernmental infrastructure 5. Cooperation in the emergence, process and elimination of the consequences of natural disasters 6. Development of tourism and the establishment of new ones Border crossings 7. Cooperation in the fields of school, culture and sport 8. Cooperation in humanitarian and social fields
The region's long-term task is to remove prejudices and obstacles that have arisen in the past and to help integrate the two countries.
