Chlumec nad Cidlinou (German Chlumetz an der Cidlina ) is a town in Okres Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic. It is located 25 kilometers west of Hradec Králové at the confluence of the Bystřice in the Cidlina .
history
Chlumetz, whose beginnings are said to go back to the second half of the 8th century, was located on an important road that ran from Prague via Náchod and Glatz, which belongs to Bohemia, to Poland. It was first mentioned in connection with the battle between the Bohemian Duke Vladislav I and the Polish King Bolesław III. Wrymouth , which took place near Chlumetz in 1110. In 1225 Zdeslav von Chlumec was mentioned, who belonged to the Sternberg family . The fortified place is only attested for the year 1397 with the market "in Chlumczi". Around 1400 it belonged to Otto d. Ä. from Bergow . In 1424 it was conquered by the Hussite Boček III. from Podebrady . After the Hussite Wars , the Catholic Otto d. J. von Bergow ( Ota IV. Mladší z Bergova , 1399-1452) and his descendants. After further changes of ownership, it came to Adalbert von Pernstein . In 1526 he had the Chlumec Castle built around 1480 expanded. At that time, the Chlumetz rule ( panství Chlumec ) consisted of the town of Chlumetz and 26 villages. Johann von Pernstein built the parish church of St. Ursula in 1536–1543. After the uprising of the estates in 1547, the city and its rule fell to the royal chamber.
In 1626 Chlumetz came permanently to the Counts of Kinsky . During the Thirty Years' War the Swedes conquered the castle, from which they were expelled in 1640 by the imperial general Octavio Piccolomini . Pond farming and horse breeding have developed since the 17th century. 1755 saw the largest peasant uprising in Bohemia in Chlumetz. Chlumetz received town charter in the 18th century . Under Franz Ferdinand Kinsky, a new baroque palace was built above the town based on a design by the architect Johann Blasius Santini-Aichl and on the occasion of the coronation of Emperor Charles VI. renamed "Karlskron".
