history

The first written mention of Skřivany took place in 1360 as the seat of the Vladiken von Křivany. According to the historian Josef Vítězslav Šimák , Skřivany is said to be identical to the Chronica Boemorum bridge called Pontes Criuci on the Cidlina. In 1562 the Counts of Sommerfeld acquired the rule. From them in 1628 Albrecht von Waldstein acquired the fortress and the associated village. Around 1720 the fortress was converted into a baroque palace and the palace chapel of the Assumption of Mary was consecrated in 1720. This was later opened to the public as the chapel of the Lord's family and in 1842 St. Consecrated to Anna. At the beginning of the 19th century it belonged to the Ledvinka family. Between 1822 and 1829 František Ladislav Čelakovský worked as a tutor for the children of Maximilian Ledvinka von Adlerstein on Skřivany.

After the abolition of patrimonial Skřivany formed a municipality in the Nový Bydžov district from 1850 . Gustav Ledvinka had a sugar factory built next to the castle in place of the granary in 1862. Between 1867 and 1868 he had the baroque castle redesigned in the neo-Gothic Windsor style. In 1870 the Groß Wossek - Wostromer local railway started operating . In 1872 Adolf Ritter von Záhony bought the castle. On April 8, 1882, the sugar factory burned down. Záhony had a sugar refinery built in its place. From 1889 the property belonged to the Liebieg family . In 1910 Skřivany had 1,200 inhabitants. The sugar refinery ceased production during the Second World War and was converted into a factory for military technology. In 1948 it was nationalized. Since 1961 the municipality Skřivany belongs to the Okres Hradec Králové. In 1977 the mechanical engineering company Strojobal started production in the factory. Between 1989 and 1990 Skřivany was incorporated into Nový Bydžov .
