Before the Thirty Years War the village belonged to the Sylwar von Silberstein family . Jan Sylwar's goods were confiscated after the Battle of White Mountain and sold to Magdalena Trčka von Lobkowicz . This pledged the property in 1629 to Albrecht von Waldstein . In the 18th century the place was enlarged. In 1835 a village school opened. The main occupation of the residents was weaving.

After the abolition of patrimonial, Šaplava formed a market town in the Nový Bydžov district from 1850 . In 1930 the municipality reached the highest population in its history with 286 inhabitants. Šaplava has been part of Okres Hradec Králové since 1961.
