Mžany (German Mschan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located nine kilometers south of Hořice and belongs to the Okres Hradec Králové .

geography

Mžany is located on the right-hand side of the Bystřice at the transition from the Horschitzer Uplands to the East Bohemian Table. To the north rises the hill Bukvice ( Bukowice , 312 m), northeast of the Rozkoš (285 m). The railway line from Hradec Králové to Jičín runs east of the village , the nearest railway station, Sadová, is a good kilometer to the east.

Neighboring towns are Klenice and Dub in the north, Sovětice in the northeast, Sadová in the east, Dohalice and Dohaličky in the southeast, Kopaniny, Mokrovousy and Janov in the south, Zavadilka and Stračovská Lhota in the southwest, Pšánky and Stračov in the west and Čeňov and Milovice u Hořic in the north .

history

Mžany was first mentioned in a document in 1404, when it was owned by Zbislav Sokol from Mžany. The district of Stračovská Lhota, which can be traced back to 1399, is older. Dub was first mentioned in writing in 1543. Mikuláš Dohalský from Dohalice inherited the goods in Mžany from the nobles of Mžany in 1536. In 1638 the royal council and judge Wilhelm Heinrich Odkolek bought from Mětice Mžany. His son Maximilian improperly married a farmer's daughter from Mžany and was disinherited.

After the abolition of patrimonial Mžany and the district Dub formed a municipality in the Königgrätz district . During the German War , Prussian and Austrian troops met in the area . On July 3, 1866, the Prussian King Wilhelm I traveled from Jičín in a carriage and was received by his troops in Dub at eight o'clock in the morning with a loud hurray. Then Wilhelm I rode in the company of his Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , General Helmuth Karl Bernhard von Moltke and War Minister Albrecht von Roon on the Rozkoš, where the Prussian headquarters was set up. Over the valley of the Bystřice, the hill offered a good view of the battle area for the Svíb and Chlum. The Prussian artillery had taken position in the Duber grove between Dub and Stračovská Lhota and opened the battle at Königgrätz from there .

In 1878 Dub became an independent community. From 1949 to 1960 Mžany was assigned to the Okres Hořice, since 1961 it has belonged again to the Okres Hradec Králové. In 1961 Dub and Stračovská Lhota including Zavadilka were incorporated.

The municipality of Mžany consists of the districts Dub ( Eich ), Mžany ( Mschan ) and Stračovská Lhota ( Elsterhotten ) as well as the settlement Zavadilka ( Zawadilka ).
