Petrovice is located at the transition from the Horschitzer Uplands to the Jitschiner Uplands on the Bašnický creek. The Pískovka (294 m) rises to the north and the Stračovský Bor (295 m) to the east.

Neighboring towns are Na Zadě and Petrovičky in the north, Pšánky in the northeast, Zavadilka and Stračovská Lhota in the east, Nerošov and Suchá in the southeast, Lodín and Janatov in the south, Chmelovice and Podoliby in the southwest and Myštěves , Kanice and Blažkov in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of Petrowicz and the Church of St. Wenceslas took place in 1350. At that time, the owners were the brothers Jan and Gotthard von Petrowicz. After Jan's death in 1355, his brother inherited the entire property. At the end of the 14th century, Jan's son Včeslav, who had inherited his uncle around 1375, built a fortress. After Včeslav died in 1395, his sons Jan, Petr and the underage Kuneš shared the property. In 1402 the brothers exchanged and sold their property to Kuneš. A share of the goods went to the knights of Dobrzenicz on Worlau, who sold their share to Wenzel Raschin von Riesenburg in 1415 . After the giant burgers, who also owned the festivals from 1415 and gradually acquired additional shares, the Vladiken family of Vlaštěk von Voděrady followed from 1488 and finally Hašek Zvířetický von Wartenberg , who sold the festivals and goods to Margarethe Pecingar von Klingstein. In 1593 Jan Sylwar von Pilnikau acquired the property from the Pecingar and joined them to the Smidary domain . After the Battle of White Mountain , the Protestant Jan Sylwar had to emigrate from Bohemia in 1622. Maria Magdalena Trčková von Lobkowicz received his goods , who immediately left them to Albrecht von Waldstein . During the Thirty Years War, the water fortress suffered severe damage and went out. In 1634 Waldstein's goods were confiscated.

Together with Hořice , Pšánky , Mlázovice , Chvalina, Milovice u Hořic and Bříšťany , Ferdinand I. Petrovice gave in 1635 to Count Jakob Strozzi von Streitenhal. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Counts of Harrach bought the village from the Strozzi and incorporated it into the Stračov estate .

After the abolition of patrimonial Velké Petrovice formed a municipality in the Königgrätz district . From 1919 the place name Petrovice is in use. From 1949 to 1960 Petrovice was assigned to the Okres Nový Bydžov , since 1961 it has belonged again to the Okres Hradec Králové. In 1961 Kanice was incorporated.
