history

Church in Nechanice

Nechanice was first mentioned in 1228, when the Czech King Wenceslas I the monastery Leitomischl for the salvation of his deceased brother Vladislav overwrote fines that in the Landtafel were recorded. The certificate was testified by Peter von Nechanice ( Petr z Nechanic ) , among others . He was the chaplain of Nechanice and acted as a representative of the Witigon branch of the Lords of Krumlov , who owned Nechanice at the time. Around this time Nechanice already had a church and a fortress, which was inhabited in 1235 by Záviš of Nechanice , a son of Vitikos II of Krumlov ( Vítek starší ). Záviš is documented for the years 1216 to 1257 and held the office of sub-chamberlain of King Wenceslaus I from 1233 to 1236. It is likely that Záviš elevated the fortified village of Nechanice to a town and at the same time gave it the Witigon coat of arms with the five-petalled rose.

Presumably after the branch of the Český Krumlov family died out in 1302, Nechanice fell to the Bohemian royal family as a settled fiefdom; in any case, King John of Luxembourg is proven to be the owner of Nechanice. Other owners included Albrecht von Kolowrat and Johann von Waldstein , who before 1521 sold the Nechanice estate to Nikolaus Pencingár von Bydžín. His descendant, Ctibor Smil, lost the possessions after the battle of the White Mountain . Nechanice was later owned by Count Schaffgotsch and finally by Count Harrach until the expropriation in 1945 . After their castle in Sadová burned down in 1744, Franz Ernst von Harrach near Nechanice built the Hrádek Castle , which subsequently served as the seat of the Harrach Counts.

In 1866 Nechanice was badly affected by the Battle of Königgrätz in the German War . In the second half of the 19th century, music making was of economic importance, mainly harps . Since 1865, Nechanice, which was elevated to a town in 1867, was the seat of the district of the same name, which existed until 1928. For political reasons Nechanice lost the status of a town in 1949 and only got it back in 1992.
