Jinonice (German Ninonitz ) has been a district of Prague (Czech Republic) since 1922 . The district is located in the hilly landscape southwest of the center and largely belongs to the Prague 5 administrative district .
location
Jinonice is a residential area and originally formed the Prague XVII district after its incorporation. Thanks to the Vidoule and Děvín hills, there was no suitable area for the construction of high-rise buildings. Despite the scattered design, there are large industrial companies in the district that were founded in the 1920s, such as Walter , Motorlet and associated companies. The German School in Prague is also located in this district.
Due to its rather quiet location with good transport links ( metro stations Jinonice and Nové Butovice, motorway E50 ), numerous single-family houses were built in the 2000s.
history
Jinonice belongs with Butovice to the oldest municipalities in Prague 5. The first documentary mention can be found in 1088 in the list of founding members of the Vyšehrad Collegiate Chapter . There was probably a fortress in Jinonice, or at least a large courtyard at the foot of the hill. A small castle with a brewery was probably built here in 1665 by the Schwarzenberg family , where changes in the classicism style were made in the 19th century . After the Thirty Years War - the Battle of White Mountain had taken place only a few kilometers away - there were only a few houses left in Jinonice, and it was not until the 19th century that the population increased again significantly. In 1991 the place had 2239 inhabitants. In 2001, Jinonice consisted of 585 houses with 2962 people living in them.
