The German School Prague (DSP) is a German school abroad in the Jinonice district of the Czech capital Prague .
history
The German School in Prague was founded in 1989 as the "GDR School Abroad" and financed by the Ministry for National Education of the German Democratic Republic . On October 4, 1990, the Federal Republic of Germany took over the sponsorship and changed the name to "German School Prague". Today the school is a private school , the school sponsor is the association “Citizens' Association for the Establishment and Promotion of the German School in Prague”. In 2009 it was awarded the title Excellent German School Abroad by the Central Office for Schools Abroad .
construction
While the school had only 26 students at the beginning, their number rose to 120 by 1992/93. The school is currently attended by 426 students. It is divided into a kindergarten , a primary school up to grade four and a high school from grade five. After an entrance examination and the optional German preparatory course, Czech pupils enter the encounter school from year six onwards . The grammar school can be attended up to the 12th grade and offers the Czech Matura and the German Abitur as educational qualifications .
Oktoberfest of the DSP
Since 2010 there has been an Oktoberfest every September on the premises of the German School. The festival is based on the annual Oktoberfest in Munich.
