The Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Międzylesie railway is a single-track main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the Austrian Northwest Railway (ÖNWB). It begins in Chlumec nad Cidlinou and leads via Hradec Králové and Letohrad to Międzylesie ( Middle Forest ) in Poland . The line is part of the international long-distance route Prague – Hradec Králové – Międzylesie– Wroclaw .
history
On August 5, 1867, the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia decided to establish the cross-border railway lines Landshut – Schwadowitz and Wildenschwert – Glatz in a state treaty.
The concession for the Wildenschwert-Glatz line was awarded to the Austrian Northwest Railway on June 25, 1870 together with the Elbe Valley Railway (Nimburg – Tetschen) and a connection from Chlumetz via Königgrätz to Geiersberg. The concession envisaged the construction of a single-track line. Only when “ the annual gross profit for two consecutive years is the sum of 180,000 florins in silver pr. After the nationalization of the ÖNWB on October 15, 1909, the line was transferred to the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took their place .
After the Sudetenland became part of Germany in the autumn of 1938, a short stretch of the line near Lichtenau came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Breslau . Between Mittelwalde and Niederlipka on the route to Olomouc, a new connecting track was built in 1939, which from then on served the direct train traffic between Glatz and Mährisch Schönberg (Šumperk). After the end of the Second World War , the route was completely returned to the ČSD. The connecting arch, which was no longer required, was dismantled in 1947.
On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia .
Today the route is part of the Czech route book routes 020 (Velký Osek – Choceň), 021 (Týniště nad Orlicí – Letohrad) and 024 (Ústí nad Orlicí– Štíty , Lichkov – Międzylesie).
