The Wrocław – Międzylesie railway is an electrified main line in Poland . It runs in Lower Silesia from Wrocław ( Breslau ) via Kamieniec Ząbkowicki ( Kamenz ) and Kłodzko ( Glatz ) to Międzylesie ( Mittelwalde ). It is part of a supraregional north-south long-distance connection from Breslau via Brno to Vienna .

history

The Breslau – Mittelwalde railway was put into operation in sections between 1871 and 1875 by the Upper Silesian Railway . The section between Breslau and Rengersdorf has been expanded to two tracks.

Opening dates

After the Sudetenland became part of Germany in October 1938, the Deutsche Reichsbahn built a short connecting line from Mittelwalde to the Bohemian Nieder Lipka to connect to the Sternberg – Lichtenwalde line . In addition to two pairs of express trains on the Breslau – Vienna route, the 1939 timetable also included three pairs of express trains between Breslau and Mährisch Schönberg, which ran over the connecting curve.

In the summer of 1945 the line was handed over to the Polish State Railways PKP by the Soviet occupying forces . The connecting curve over the re-established state border to Nieder Lipka (Dolní Lipka) served the Soviet occupying power for a while and was broken off in 1947 due to a lack of further needs.

In the early 1990s, the line to Międzylesie was electrified with the 3 kV direct current system. The following table shows the opening dates of the electric train operation:

opening route
January 16, 1991 Wrocław Główny – Kamieniec Ząbkowicki

May 26, 1994 Kłodzko Główne – Międzylesie
September 1, 2008 Międzylesie – State border (–Lichkov)

The cross-border route to Lichkov and on to Ústí nad Orlicí in the Czech Republic was also switched to electrical operation in 2008.
