Swell:

The Kłodzko – Kudowa Zdrój railway is a branch line in what is now Poland . It branches off at Kłodzko ( Glatz ) from the main line Wrocław – Międzylesie (Breslau – Mittelwalde) and leads south of the Heuscheuergebirge via Duszniki Zdrój ( Bad Reinerz ) to Kudowa Zdrój ( Bad Kudowa ). The originally planned continuation to Náchod in the Czech Republic only existed for a short time at the end of the Second World War .

history

The first section of the route from Glatz to Rückers was opened on December 15, 1890 by the Prussian State Railways . Only after the turn of the century was the construction of the route to the health resorts in the Bohemian corner continued. The construction of the route across the watershed between the Reinerzer Weistritz and the Schnelle created particular problems . A very winding route with two tunnels and a large viaduct near Lewin was necessary on the west side of the pass. The continuation line was opened on December 1, 1902 to Bad Reinerz and on July 10, 1905 to Kudowa-Sackisch. The Kudowa-Schlaney line was opened on May 15, 1906.

Lewin viaduct

The continuation to the Bohemian Náchod was originally planned. The line was therefore completed right up to the state border. However, on the Bohemian side and, from 1918 on, on the Czechoslovak side, construction did not begin.

From March 1945 provisional tracks and a bridge over the Mettau from the protectorate border to the nearby Běloves train station were built for military reasons . This rail connection was used to transport Lufthansa accessories that were manufactured by forced laborers in the post or metal structure (formerly the textile company Eduard Doctor ) and in the former Katzau company in Babi , to the war front. Because the end of the war was near, this did not happen. Up until the end of the war on May 8, 1945, this route was mainly used for clearing trains in front of the approaching front, in order to move military equipment and railway vehicles to the west. In the summer of 1945 the line was handed over to the Polish State Railways PKP by the Soviet occupying forces . The cross-border connection to Náchod served the Soviet Union to transport reparations until 1947 , after which it was dismantled.
