The Častolovice – Solnice railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as a nationally guaranteed local railway Častolowitz – Reichenau an der Kněžna – Solnice (Czech: Místní dráha Častolovice – Rychnov nad Kněžnou – Solnice ). It branches off in Častolovice from the Chlumec nad Cidlinou – Międzylesie railway line and leads at the foot of the Eagle Mountains via Rychnov nad Kněžnou to Solnice and Kvasiny .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On September 4, 1892, the concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from a point on the Austrian Northwest Railway near Častolowitz via Reichenau and Solnitz to Kwasnei was granted. The line was opened on October 26, 1893.

The municipality of Rychnov founded the joint stock company Lokalbahn Reichenau an der Kněžna – Solnitz (Czech: Místní dráha Rychnov nad Kněžnou – Solnice (MDRS)).

The kk priv. Österreichische Nordwestbahn (ÖNWB) took over the management for the account of the owners and after its nationalization (1908) the north west railway management of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). In 1912, the local railway timetable showed five mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. The trains needed around 40 minutes in both directions for the 16-kilometer route.

After the First World War , the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took the place of the kkStB . From then on, the local railway company operated in Czech as Místní dráha Častolovice – Rychnov – Solnice as (ČRS). The commissioning of modern motor trains by the ČSD enabled a significant consolidation of the timetable from 1927. The ČSD established new stops in Synkov and Slemeno. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded 15 pairs of 3rd class passenger trains, all of which were run as motorized trains.

During the Second World War, the line was entirely in the Protectorate and was operated by the now Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). The German Reich nationalized the local railway company in 1942. At the end of the war, traffic came to a standstill on May 6, 1945 as a result of the fighting.

On May 10, 1945, train traffic was resumed by the re-established ČSD. The nationalization during the German occupation was declared null and void. On January 1, 1949, the route was then nationalized again - and now for good.

In 1981 and 1982 the tracks and systems were renewed as part of a general overhaul. Then the line speed could be increased from 40 to 60 km / h.

On January 1, 1993, as a result of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the line was transferred to the newly founded Czech state railway company České dráhy (ČD). Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In 2008, SŽDC opened the new Solnice zastávka stop at the main gate of the Škoda plant in Kvasiny. At the same time, a modified passenger train timetable came into effect on December 14, 2008. Since then, trains have been running every hour between Častolovice and Rychnov nad Kněžnou . From then on to Solnice there are essentially only rush hour trains. The majority of train pairs to and from Týniště nad Orlicí and Hradec Králové have been connected since 2018. The trains cross in Týniště nad Orlicí every half hour and in Rychnov nad Kněžnou every full hour on the usual symmetry minute .

The route operator SŽDC plans to electrify the route by the end of 2020, for which 800 million crowns are to be invested.

Vehicle use

ČD series 810 (Solnice station; 2014)

For the account of the local railway Častolowitz – Reichenau an der Kněžna – Solnitz , the ÖNWB acquired two locomotives of the ÖNWB series XV with the numbers 1S and 2S and the names RYCHNOV and SOLNICE . The kkStB gave the locomotives the road numbers 162.14–15. The local railway wagons had been delivered by Ringhoffer in Prague. The company park included five passenger cars 2/3. Class, two company cars with a mail compartment and ten freight cars.

The ČSD later also used tank locomotives of the 310.0 and 422.0 series on the line. After the superstructure had been reinforced, the heavier class 434.1 locomotives with tender also came to Rychnov nad Kněžnou. After the Second World War, the modern tank locomotives of the 422.0 and 423.0 series ran .

In 1927, the ČSD had two four-axle motor vehicles of the M 220.1 series for tourist traffic , which were later replaced by two M 120.4 motor vehicles . An M 232.0 also drove for a short time . After the Second World War, the vehicles were quickly replaced by the M 131.1 series . M 152.0 (ČD 810) class railcars have been in use since 1982 . Today, passenger traffic is handled by class 814 and 841 railcars .
